Spirit Week

Monday, September 16: PJ Day. Students can wear their pajamas to school. Please keep in mind that students will still be having specials (such as PE), and going outside for recess, so shoes are required.

Tuesday, September 17: Hero vs. Villain Day. Students can dress as their favorite superhero or villain. Students cannot wear masks that cover their face. A costume is appropriate but props that accompany those costumes are not (for example: swords, other weapons, magic wands, etc)

Wednesday, September 18: Western Wednesday. Dress as a cowboy or cowgirl. Again, props that might accompany cowboy attire would not be appropriate. Hats are acceptable.

Thursday, September 19: Disney Day. Dress as your favorite Disney character or just in your Disney attire. Again, students cannot wear masks that cover their face.  A costume is appropriate but props that accompany those costumes are not (for example: swords, other weapons, magic wands, etc)

Friday, September 20: Willard Wear. This is the day of the District-Wide Homecoming Parade.

Reading Levels

I have had a few different parents ask about their kiddo’s reading level.  I wanted to let everyone know that in first grade we spend the first four weeks of school establishing routines and building students’ stamina to be able to work independently. This way we can successfully have reading groups.

I started DRA assessments this week. It will take me two full weeks to finish everyone.   Soon I will be able to give you more specific information about how your kiddo is doing in reading. Until I’m finished, it would be very beneficial to work with your kiddo on the sight words in their take home folders and read together every day.

Sight Words

Your kiddo’s take home folder is full of useful information.  Make sure you check the sights words tab to see which sight words your kiddo needs to practice.  I circled the ones they were unsure of.  I will try and update these several times a quarter.

Field Day

Thursday, May 23rd is FIELD DAY!!!  First grade will have Field Day in the morning.  This will be a really exciting day.  Coach has planned some exciting activities. Make sure your kiddo wears tennis shoes that can get dirty or wet.  It is also a good idea to apply sunscreen before they come to school that day.  We will also eat lunch outside, so they should bring a sack lunch from home or buy a sack lunch from school.

Wonder Table

Now that spring has finally arrived, I would love to update our wonder table.  Keep an eye out for spring time items that we can observe. Your child is invited to bring in budding flowers, interesting plants, and yes…even insects (no spiders please)! All I am asking is that you make sure all insects are in a secure container.  We will observe them and then release them outside.  Keep your eyes open for signs of spring!

Glue Sticks and Pencils

10 Year Celebration

On Friday, May 3^rd WOHE will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary.  There will be cupcakes, bounce houses, and fun videos/pictures of the kiddos.  I hope to see you all there!!!
