What We Are Learning

Reading:  This week we learned about the sneaky silent e.  We practiced flipping the vowel sounds and decoding words when they have a silent e at the end.

Alphabet: In alphabet this week, we looked at the _it word family (examples: bit, kit, sit, etc.). We practiced “spelling” these words with our bodies.  We also learned about the blends dr and fl.

Writing:  This week we finished writing nonfiction/fact books. Your child drafted, revised, edited, and published a book all on their own.  I will score this independent writing piece using the district writing rubric.  Your child’s score will be reflected on his/her grade card.

Math: We finished our addition and subtraction unit.  I spent the week assessing individual students on adding and subtracting within 10 and addition and subtraction word problems.

Theme: During theme this week, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday! We read The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham.  Ask your child if they would want the Cat in the Hat to visit their house!

Spring Conferences

This year our school will be doing spring parent teacher conferences for the first time. They will be March 24th and March 26th.  These conferences will be different from fall conferences in that they are not student-led but more of a conversation focus and a chance to look at data about your child’s growth this year. I sent home information last Friday.

 Dry Erase Markers

Can you believe that I am asking for dray erase makers again?! Well…we are in need again!  We use these markers every day in our classroom.  If you can, we would love to have some donated. Thank you all for your generosity!
